Weed Pull Day
On Monday, Aug. 9th, Donna Harris organized (and bribed with cookies!) an intrepid group of River Meadows volunteers to donate their time and pull and dig noxious weeds along our bicycle paths and roads. We held our War On Weeds day in conjunction with Sunriver's W.O.W. weekend. Significant advances were made in the war to rid our community of mullen, salsify, and thistle. I want to thank again the following volunteers for their help: Ray Cecchi, Keith Cloudas, Judy Nelson, Julene Church, newcomers Georgiana Naylor-Keeler and Jack Keeler, and Kermit Williams.
One of our top noxious weeds, spotted knapweed, is being sprayed this month rather than pulled, since pulling may encourage more growth the following years. Sandy Stevens is volunteering to help Lester in this ongoing battle. Persistance on their part over the past years has had a great influence on reducing it in River Meadows. Knapweed and cheatgrass are among the worst noxious weeds in the west since they crowd out native vegetation. Their seeds are tenacious, surviving years in the soil. Thousands of acres of western rangeland are threatened by these two weeds alone.
If all our residents can learn to identify these noxious weeds and eliminate them on their own properties, we'd make much further gains on this war!
Any questions regarding identifying our noxious weeds can be to directed to Donna Harris at 541-593-1970.

System Development Fees
Our System Development Fees have been the lowest in the surrounding area for quite some time and the Board of Directors recently voted to increase the fees effective January 1, 2011. Owners who build a new home on their property pay these fees. The current fee is $5,000.00 and is divided three ways. $2,000.00 goes to the HOA for road, bike path, and other amenity maintenance, $2,000.00 goes to RMSO for sewer maintenance, and $1,000.00 goes to RMID for maintenance of the water system. The new fee will be $10,000.00 and will be divided three ways: $5,000.00 to the HOA, $2,500.00 to RMSO and $2,500.00 to RMID. Once again, this increase will not become effective until January 1, 2011.

Bluebird Next Boxes
Kermit Williams and I (Donna Harris) are hoping to encourage more Mountain Bluebirds to take up residence here in River Meadows! These bluebirds are NOT to be confused with the raucous, lovely, large cobalt blue Stellar Blue Jays, but are beautiful insect-eating (yeah!) birds about 7¼" long, with males being sky blue with paler blue below, and females being gray-brown with light blue wings. They often hover above their prey before dropping down to catch them (hopefully all mosquitoes!). They like to nest in tree cavities at the interface between forests and open meadow land. They cannot make their own cavities in trees, so they must find pre-formed ones or human-made nest boxes. Hence our project! Click HERE to read more. Click HERE to see a picture.

RMHOA Districts
Recently your new River Meadows Board held its first workshop on July 29th and discussed an exciting new possibility. In order to improve communications with all residents, Hank was asked to divide the entire River Meadows Community into 7 small geographical districts. Each "district" has approximately 33 homes (or lots). If YOU have a question or concern now or in the future, you are asked to contact YOUR District Board Representative, who will take your question to the board. We are also hopeful that all districts will be represented for future board or committee vacancies. (The Board of Directors voted to establish districts at the Board Meeting on August 1st.) The attached map shows how the districts will be numbered and assigned:
District 1 - Richard Braddock
District 2 - Stan Gonta
District 3 - Ray Yillik
District 4 - Mark Baldwin
District 5 - Michelle Gregurich
District 6 - Joe Patnode
District 7 - Terri Burke
If you would like to contact any of these individuals, please refer to the "contact us" page. Everyone will be contacted by your Board Representative in the near future.
Sincerely,
Michelle Gregurich
